Hi, writer!

I'm Kaye Kennedy

Author + Intuitive Guide + Business Strategist

I don’t believe there’s one “right” way to build an author business.

Which is slightly inconvenient, considering how much of the publishing industry is built around telling you there is...

Write to market... Chase the algorithm... Post more... Run ads... Build your newsletter... Write faster... Follow what this bestselling author did.

And listen, some of that is damn good advice, but there’s one pretty important variable missing from a lot of author business strategies: You.

The actual human being who has to write the books, market them, make ~4,782 business decisions, somehow maintain a life, and then wake up tomorrow and want to do it all again.

That’s the part I’m obsessed with.

Because I don’t think the goal is simply to build an author business that works.

I want you to build one that works for YOU.

My career has never made much sense on paper.

→ I’m a hybrid-published romance author.

→ I’m also a lifelong psychic medium who has delivered thousands of messages to people around the world.

→ I spent years as an award-winning business strategy consultant working with six- and seven-figure entrepreneurs.

→ And somewhere along the way, I also went DEEP into healing, trauma, somatics, spirituality, and personal development—collecting enough certifications and training to make this section seventeen pages long (so I won’t do that).

For a long time, those looked like completely separate careers.

Turns out, they weren’t.

Each one taught me something different about the person behind the business.

  • Business strategy taught me how to look at the numbers, branding, opportunities, risks, positioning, systems, and decisions that actually move a business forward.

  • Psychic Mediumship taught me how to listen beyond what someone is saying out loud, and recognize the thing they often already know underneath all the chaos.

  • Somatic and trauma-informed work taught me that our bodies, nervous systems, experiences, identities, and capacity don’t magically disappear when we open our laptops.

And becoming an author?

Wellllll...that taught me what all of this looks like when you’re staring at your sales numbers, wondering what the hell to write next, trying to keep readers happy, watching the algorithm do whateverrrrr it feels like doing today, and attempting to build a sustainable career around something that is deeply, ridiculously personal to you.

Eventually, all those seemingly unrelated parts of my life started pointing toward the same thing:

Your business strategy should account for the actual human being who has to live it.

I learned that lesson outside of business, too.

There’s a deeper reason I care so much about building businesses around the people running them...

My body taught me what happens when we don’t listen to ourselves.

I’m a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault, and I live with chronic illness and dynamic disability from decades of trauma. My own healing journey eventually led me into somatics, trauma-informed healing, Reiki, nutritional therapy, herbalism, and other healing modalities.

Not because I woke up one morning and thought, You know what would be fun? Twenty-two more certifications. I was trying to understand myself. I wanted to understand why our minds can decide we’re "fine" while our bodies are still telling an entirely different story.

Why we override what we know... Why we disconnect from ourselves... Why change can feel terrifying even when we desperately want it... And how we learn to trust ourselves again.

That journey fundamentally changed the way I think about success. Because today, I don’t believe a business is successful simply because the numbers say it is.

If your business only works when you consistently override your body, your creativity, your values, your capacity, or yourself...

I don’t think it works.

Then I started noticing something in the author world.

While building my own career as a romance author and coaching writers on their businesses, I kept seeing the same patterns. Really freaking talented authors were burning themselves out trying to keep up. Authors who had already achieved the thing they once dreamed about were terrified to change anything because...

What if I screw it up?

Authors were collecting advice from podcasts, Facebook groups, courses, conferences, other authors, coaches, Reddit...and somehow becoming less clear about what they should actually do.

Someone would tell them they needed Facebook ads. Someone else would swear by Amazon ads.

Someone said rapid release... Someone said Kickstarter... Someone said TikTok... Someone said direct sales... Someone said write faster... Someone said switch genres (ahhhhhhhh!)

And suddenly a person who had successfully written and published multiple freaking books didn’t trust themselves to make a business decision. That fascinated me. Because I started realizing that a lot of the questions authors brought me weren’t just strategy questions.

“Should I keep writing this series?”

“Should I change genres?”

“Should I hire an assistant?”

“Should I spend the money on this opportunity?”

“Should I do this signing?”

“Should I launch a new pen name?”

Sure, we could look at the data. We should look at the data. But sometimes the question underneath the question was something entirely different: Do I trust myself enough to make a decision when nobody can guarantee how it ends?

And THAT was where all the weird pieces of my career finally collided.

So, I created the Intuitive Author Society.

Not because I think authors need another guru handing them the correct blueprint. (Actually...I created it because I think we need fewer of those.)

I want to help authors understand themselves well enough to know which strategies belong in their business.

That means we can talk about sales and intuition in the same conversation. We can look at the numbers and how something feels. We can talk about marketing strategy and capacity; reader expectations and creative desire; profitability and sustainability; data and discernment. Because these things aren’t opposites.

Intuition doesn’t replace strategy.

And strategy doesn’t replace YOU.

The magic happens when you learn how to use both.

That philosophy eventually became the foundation of my work and my methodology. My approach to building an author business centers around your unique way of creating, communicating, making decisions, working, growing, and experiencing success.

Not somebody else’s.

Yours.

You don’t need another person handing you the “right” blueprint. You need to know yourself well enough to follow yours.

Okay, but can we talk credentials for a hot minute?

Because while I absolutely believe in intuition (are we vibing yet? because I feel like we're vibing), I also believe the person giving you business advice should know a thing or two about the author business.

I’ve spent nearly 15 years working across business strategy, intuitive counseling, healing, and personal development.

Before founding Intuitive Author Society, I worked as an award-winning Business Strategy Consultant, helping six- and seven-figure entrepreneurs and authors around the world navigate growth, positioning, strategy, and the messy human stuff that inevitably comes with building a business.

I’m also a hybrid-published romance author with 18 novels, so when you tell me about deadlines, reader expectations, launches, sales numbers, genre decisions, characters refusing to cooperate, or the existential crisis that can accompany opening your author dashboard...

I know the world you’re talking about.

Writing has been part of my story for a looooong time. I was the fourth grader filling an entire marble notebook with my first book. I went on to earn a degree in English Literature and teach college literature before entrepreneurship took my career in twelve different directions. And eventually...

I came back to the books. These days, I write contemporary romance and romantic suspense about everyday heroes and emotionally traumatize people for money. I used to be a firefighter, and now I write about them—which is probably one of the more predictable plot twists in my career history.

I’m a lifelong psychic medium who has delivered thousands of evidential messages to clients internationally, connecting people with loved ones who've crossed over, spirit guides, and intuitive insight. So, yes, I see dead people. (Oh, jeez...did I just date myself with that reference?)

I’m also a Reiki Master, somatic therapist, trauma-informed coach, and Spiritualist minister, with additional certifications and training in everything from NLP, EFT, and the Akashic Records to nutritional therapy, herbalism, Ocean Therapy, and Executive Functioning.

It is, admittedly, a weird résumé.

But it also means that when we look at what’s happening in your author business, I’m rarely looking through only one lens. Sometimes the problem really is your strategy. Sometimes it’s fear. Sometimes it’s capacity. Sometimes it’s an old pattern wearing a cute little business hat. Sometimes you intuitively know exactly what you want to do and are hoping I’ll give you enough evidence to make the fear disappear.

And sometimes, it’s all of the above.

My clients have lovingly described working with me as, "a kick in the soul from spirit." Which, frankly, feels pretty accurate.  Because I have a knack for shining a light on the thing you already know somewhere deep down, but haven’t quite been willing or able to see.

And because there’s more to me than my résumé...

I’m originally from New York, have lived in six states along the East Coast, and currently chase my version of an endless summer between Massachusetts and Florida.

I’m happiest near (or preferably in) the water, with a book nearby and another trip being plotted somewhere in the back of my brain. Bonus points if there’s a winery or a really good craft brewery involved.

That love of travel has found its way into my work, too. I host wellness retreats in some pretty incredible places, and I’m currently planning my first one specifically for authors. Sooooo...if writing, intuition, business, and getting away somewhere beautiful sound like your kind of thing, keep an eye out.

I share my life with my incredibly supportive partner, who has learned how to to buckle in for all of my plot twists, and Zeus—my rescue mutt turned service dog—who also has a starring role in my book Burning for Secrets. (Okay, so it's more like a supporting role, but please don't tell him that.)

I just realized that apparently even my dog has multiple careers. Honestly, that tracks.

Here's what I want for you...

I don’t want you to become better at following everybody else’s instructions.

I don’t want you to need seven opinions before you trust yourself enough to make a decision.

And I definitely don’t want you building a business that looks wildly successful from the outside while secretly making you miserable on the inside.

I want you to become a Self-Led Author...

→ Who knows how to gather information without drowning in it.

→ Who can listen to smart advice without automatically assuming it applies to them.

→ Who understands their creative rhythms, capacity, strengths, desires, patterns, and definition of success.

→ Who can look at strategy, data, intuition, experience, and their own inner knowing.

...and decide.

Will you always know exactly what you’re doing? LOL. No. Neither do I. That isn’t self-trust.

Self-trust is knowing you can listen to yourself, make the best decision you can with what you know right now, and trust yourself with whatever comes next.

That’s the work we’re doing inside Intuitive Author Society. We’re not throwing strategy out the window and letting astrology make every business decision. And you’re definitely not handing me permanent psychic custody of your career.

Because I don’t want you to need me to tell you what to do forever.

I want you to become the author who knows how to decide.

Does that sound like the kind of author—and business owner—you’re ready to become?
